Full red-ruby. Perfumed aromas of rose, red licorice and brown spices. A fine-grained wine of noteworthy finesse, with ineffable perfume to its floral, spice and stony flavors; really reverberates in the mouth. And yet there's also terrific volume for this grand cru, especially in the context of the year. Finishes with big, broad tannins and outstanding length. This will require seven or eight years of cellaring. Laurent notes that his 2007 version of this is from a new source, and that it can't match this one.

(from vines within the original walls of the clos): Bright red-ruby. Subtly perfumed aromas of red fruits, rose petal and minerals, plus a very ripe suggestion of warm rocks. Suave, pure and youthfully imploded, with sexy saline soil tones more than supported by intense red fruit flavors. Spreads out to saturate the palate on the classy, weightless, rising back end. These vines were harvested early, noted Laurent. A great Clos de la Roche in the making..

($95) Good deep red. Restrained but very ripe nose is currently dominated by coconutty oak. Fat, sweet and full; very lush, rich and mouthfilling wine with an almost decadent ripeness. Finishes with building tannins. On the verge of heavy-handed.
